Girls Just Wanna
YEAR: 2026
ROLES: CREATIVE DIRECTOR + WARDROBE STYLIST + MOVEMENT DIRECTION + SET DIRECTION + GRAPHIC DESIGN
Overview
“Girls Just Wanna” is a Y2K inspired fashion lookbook created as a playful introduction to my styling perspective and the creative world of Kgirl Kurated. Inspired by the confidence of the Spice Girls, the attitude of Bratz dolls, and the colorful nostalgia of early 2000s pop culture, the concept celebrates the freedom of girlhood, getting dressed up, experimenting with your identity, and expressing yourself without taking fashion too seriously.
At the center of the story are two girls with distinct personalities who exist within the same larger than life Y2K universe. The concept captures the feeling of getting ready with your best friend, playing your favorite songs, trying on clothes, and surrounding yourself with everything you love. Bold fashion, nostalgic references, and playful details come together to make “Girls Just Wanna” a celebration of friendship, individuality, and the pure fun of being a girl.
DIrection
The creative direction was built around visualizing the feeling of listening to your favorite girl group song and turning that nostalgia into a complete fashion world. I wanted the models to feel like two members of an early 2000s girl group, each with her own personality and style while still feeling connected as a duo.
For the wardrobe, I pulled heavily from Y2K fashion, mixing micro shorts, graphic tops, layered pieces, statement boots, camouflage, leopard print, bold jewelry, hats, and colorful accessories. I intentionally gave each model her own styling identity while repeating colors, textures, and details between their looks to create cohesion. The wardrobe was meant to capture the playful experimentation of the era, where mixing prints, piling on accessories, and making a statement were all part of getting dressed.
I extended that styling into the set and prop direction, using recognizable pieces of early 2000s girlhood to make the world feel more complete. I styled a clothing rack with Y2K pieces and incorporated details like a mirror, lip glosses, shopping bags, a flip phone, and other nostalgic accessories throughout the compositions. Rather than functioning as background decoration, the props helped create the feeling of stepping into the girls’ own space, surrounded by fashion, beauty, music, and everything that defined their world.
Graphic design was another key part of bringing the concept to life. I developed oversized Y2K inspired assets, including the MP3 player and larger than life leopard heel, playing with scale to make the models feel as though they had physically stepped inside a pop culture fantasy. Together, the wardrobe, set styling, props, and graphic elements transformed the shoot into a playful celebration of Y2K fashion, music, and girlhood.
