I SHOULD BE OPEN BUT I CAN'T STOP THINKING

Overview
“I Should Be Open, But I Can’t Stop Thinking” is a black and white fashion editorial exploring the emotional disconnect between two people who remain physically close while growing further apart. The story centers on incompatibility, conflicting perceptions, and the feeling of holding onto a relationship that no longer exists in the same way for both people. Their closeness becomes its own contradiction, capturing the tension between wanting intimacy and recognizing when two people can no longer reach one another.
WARDROBE DIrection
Working from the photographer’s original direction of sophisticated, funeral inspired attire, I used the wardrobe to further communicate the emotional contrast between the two characters. I styled the female model in a draped black silhouette with an exposed shoulder, layering strands of pearls throughout the look to bring softness, elegance, and a sense of romantic vulnerability. For the male model, I chose a more structured, fully covered black look that feels restrained and emotionally guarded.
The contrast between her fluid styling and his closed silhouette became an extension of their relationship. Although both characters exist within the same monochromatic world, their individual styling communicates two different emotional states, reinforcing the distance between them even when they are physically intertwined.
