Star Of The Show
YEAR: 2024
ROLES: CREATIVE DIRECTION + WARDROBE STYLIST + SET DIRECTION + MOVEMENT DIRECTION + SOCIAL MEDIA CONTENT + POST PRODUCTION
Overview
“Star of the Show” is a Y2K inspired fashion editorial built around one idea: what if you were the celebrity everyone was talking about? Drawing from the bold, playful energy of early 2000s pop culture magazines like Tiger Beat, the concept places the model at the center of her own cover story, complete with dramatic headlines, glamorous styling, and all the attitude of a true “it girl.”
Each final shot becomes its own magazine cover moment, celebrating the fun and fantasy of seeing your name in big letters, your face on the front page, and an entire issue dedicated to you. The project captures the unapologetic confidence and larger than life personality of Y2K celebrity culture while making the model exactly what the title promises: the star of the show.
DIrection
I wanted to capture the nostalgia and larger than life energy of early 2000s celebrity culture, positioning the model as the ultimate “it girl” and undeniable star of her own magazine cover. For the styling, I leaned into the glamour and excess of the era, using metallic tones, draped silhouettes, layered gold jewelry, statement rings, body accessories, and high shine details to create a look that felt worthy of a Y2K cover star. Every accessory was intentionally layered to make the character feel glamorous, bold, and slightly over the top, reinforcing the celebrity persona at the center of the concept.
I carried that character into the graphic direction by developing and directing the magazine cover assets, establishing the placement of the mastheads, headlines, cover lines, barcodes, and supporting details. I also wrote the copy featured throughout the covers, using playful, personality driven headlines such as “Who the Illest Girl in Town?” to build a complete story and public persona around the model.
Through the styling, posing, copy, typography, and graphic composition, I wanted each final image to feel less like a photoshoot with magazine graphics added afterward and more like an actual Y2K celebrity magazine cover, where the model is the star everyone is talking about.
